Transforming Prison Relationship Dynamics with Immersive VR & Art-Centered Experiences
Creative Acts
/
Inglewood, CA

An innovative project uniting incarcerated individuals and prison staff for an immersive VR-Arts experience that disrupts power dynamics and heals traumas associated with prison.

In order to end mass incarceration, we must disrupt the system from the inside. Using immersive VR content, incarcerated individuals and prison staff will participate in scenario-based experiences that address traumas caused by hierarchy, power and disenfranchisement within incarcerated communities. After the VR experience, all participants engage in art-centered reflections to address emotional and physical changes. This breaks barriers between the prison hierarchy and supports successful reentry for incarcerated participants.
